Twelve of us had an excellent visit on 21st January 2020 to the National Civil War Museum in Newark. We spent a good three hours in the museum and really only scratched the surface of the exhibits, apart for Roger who tried to destroy some armour! The museum is partly housed in the old Magnus school Tudor Hall dating from the 1500's and is also attached to the Palace Theatre and its café facilities. The museum not only tells the story of the Civil war and its effect on Newark and Britain in general but also something of Newark's history through the ages. Very interesting and it is well worth a visit.
Following on from this a question has been asked of the steering committee regarding subscriptions. As a result we took the opportunity to discuss this and a decision was reached by the committee. This was then discussed with the members present on the visit who agreed that this was the best policy to follow. The policy is this;
1. Annual subscriptions to the History Group would remain at £24 per annum, to be paid quarterly in advance, i.e. £6 per quarter. (These are due at the February meeting).
2. Casual U3A members visiting meetings would pay £4 per visit.
