Most months we usually have a speaker, with occasional visits to relevant places of interest, such as a walk round some of Ledbury’s historic buildings. Members are contacted in advance by email or telephone, with a reminder of the next meeting.
In May Patricia Wilkin, one of the senior guides at Eastnor Castle, spoke to us about the Castle and the history of the family who had it built. She showed us pictures of the main rooms and her descriptions brought them to life as if we were having a personal tour.
In June a group of us took the bus to Worcester for a guided tour of the Cathedral. We were shown the crypt and the resting places of King John and Henry VIII’s elder brother, Arthur.
In July our member Brian Hudson gave us a talk on the story of Ledbury Preserves at the jam factory in Little Marcle Road, universally known as The Pozzy and told us about some of the leading personalities who ran it and how it finished up as the source of Atora suet.
In September a private tour of Hellens at Much Marcle took place.
