Walking

There are 5 Walking Groups in Taw U3A

Amblers

Our aim is to cater for people who can no longer ramble over longer distances.  We walk approximately 2 miles while we discuss a wide range of subjects.  There is support for any of us with problems and the meetings are rounded off sharing lunch and friendships.  In short, we enjoy the company.

We meet at 11:00am on the 2nd Tuesday each month for an amble and to enjoy a variety of scenery. Details of where we meet are given to members in the Newsletters.

Rambling

Taw U3A Ramblers meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at a place and time as stated in the Newsletters.  They enjoy leisurely country walks in the company of fellow members whilst observing views, nature and any points of interest.  Our walks are approximately six to seven miles at the pace of the slowest walker.

Walk leaders and dates are agreed at a planning meeting in November.  Leaders choose, reconnoitre and assess the suitability of the walk, then inform the other members of the place, start time etc. via the Newsletters.
The programme normally includes an annual lunch in January and a walking holiday in October.  No dogs are allowed.

Roamers

Roamers operates on the same basis as Ramblers but the walks are shorter, typically four to five miles long. We meet on the fourth Monday of each month except December. After our walk in November we have a brief AGM and a pub lunch and members sign up for which walk they will lead the following year. Walks in winter months tend to be shorter and to finish at a pub or cafe where members can have lunch. Other months we take a packed lunch and drink with us. The walks include a ten minute coffee stop and about twenty minutes for lunch. There is a 50p per person subscription each year to enable us to confirm who is a member and to contribute to expenses such as postage, occasional purchase of maps or books of walks. The details of forthcoming walks are in the monthly Newsletter. We join with the Ramblers for a walk and lunch in January and the five-day holiday in October, with responsibility for organising these events alternating each year between the Roamers and the Ramblers.

Strollers

We meet at around 11:00 to 11:30am on the 1st Tuesday each month for a stroll around various villages.  Our aim is to cater for people who can no longer walk very far.  We walk for about an hour, admiring the scenery amid fun and laughter then round off the morning with lunch in a local pub.

Wanderers

We are a very friendly Group. Our walks are between 2 and 3 miles long and we try to find walks with different interests, such as historical, geographical or Natural History. Walk leaders are encouraged to decide their own walks and there is always a good lunch at the end, with lots of chatter.

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11:00am. New members are welcome to join us.
