The Out and About group try to organise a trip, visit or event once a month. In January this group holds an AGM to discuss with all of the members the plans for the year and hopefully get offers from people to organise trips to their favourite places of interest.
In March a very successful vist was made to Gilbert & Swayne, a chocolatier Jane, who works from her home at Boltonsborough. The group heard all about how chocolate is made and then given a demonstration of making the amazing chocholates she produces. there was plenty of tastings and a chance to buy! The group enjoyed lunch of homemade soup and cheese.
In April a group went to Uphill where they enjoyed a talk by Stuart Castle on the history of the village and all the important buildings around. Some of the intrepid members walked up to the Norman church of St Nicholas, on the hill. The Group then met at The Boathouse restaurant for lunch. In May a visit to the Sulis silk factory in Radstock along with a pub lunch has been organised, also with a chance to purche silk products they manufacture, including thermals! A trip to Milton lodge and gardens along with tea and cake will take place in June when the roses will be at their best. In September there will be a visit to the Elizabethen Manor House of Midelney Manor at Langport along with a cream tea. In the Autumn it is hoped to have a visit to Rich's cider farm.
We are always interested in places to go and welcome sugesstions. Nearly all our trips include a meal together or at least a tea. We work closely with the members arranging day coach trips which go further a field.
