Fund Raising
Committee member Joanne has been finding ways to raise finance towards the projector we hope to buy. She has successfully applied to the two councillors on her ward, they will give donations from their ‘half penny rates’. Also, she has found contact details to apply for Sainsbury’s and Tesco funding (letters to be written). There is a fund-raising fact sheet available if anyone else cares to apply to their councillor for u3a funds.
Projector
The committee have discussed the pros and cons of purchasing our own projector needed for speakers and for groups like Art Appreciation and Local History. Gary and Gwyn have done some thorough research and agree the most suitable and best value is the Epson projector available in the Argos Black Friday sale at this time (£369.99). We are also agreed on purchasing the Argos insurance.
Newsletter
Angela and Gary spent 2 days last weekend composing the December Newsletter. They ask that all items should be sent in early in future. Alun Hunt suggested a deadline of 24th of month for all submissions.
Xmas Raffle
We would like to have a special raffle for the December meeting to raise funds. Donations welcome. Tickets £1 each.
Groups
Sunday Lunch, Ukulele, Photography, Technology, Discussion, all postponed for December due to covid worries and illness.
Most other groups are doing well and we should be considering new groups for the new year.
LAC
After an appeal to Ceri Waters, Funding Manager at Learning Action Centre (LAC), there will be no charge for room rental there until January. This is a great help for our group.
AOB
Joanne James has arranged to try to recruit new u3a members at Ebbw Vale Library on Friday 3rd.
Brian is to contact a speaker on ‘Old Ebbw Vale’ recommended by Crickhowell u3a, hopefully to speak in our January monthly meeting.
