RECENT MEETINGS

Thursday, 3rd October at 2pm. We looked at changing social customs around Death. Much of the talk was about the Victorian Era, and the prolongued mourning periods, especially for women. We had a good collection of Mourning Cards between us, and Margaret also had a brooch including human hair which would have been worn during mourning.
It was all surprisingly interesting!

25th April, 2019. Grandparents.

7th March, 2019 SHOW AND TELL!_
An amazing collection of objects was brought along. Every group member brought something. Every object had a fascinating story to tell!

31st January, 2019 "Three Letters Home From the Western Front May 1916".
Joy Gladstone give us a fascinating presentation about her World War 1 ancestor. Harold Cheesbrough. Her family have three letters that were written by Harold during May, 1916. They give some insight into what conditions were like for the soldiers on the front line. Harold survived the Battle of the Somme, but unfortunately was killed just a couple of months before the war ended. I think we all hoped that Harold was going to be a survivor.
