Short Mat Bowls

The group meets once a week at the Scout Hall, Sandy Lane, Caldicot every Wednesday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
Our Short Mat Bowls Group started in 2013 using one mat loaned to us by Caldicot Scout Group. Since then we have purchased more equipment and joined the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls league. During our first year of league membership we finished nowhere, but since then have won the League title four times.
We also take part in the Monmouthshire Triples tournaments, held each Spring and Autumn. This year the format has changed and the Triples will be played at various venues with the Final being held in Usk.
In 2018 we won the inaugural Severn Challenge Cup competition against Ripple in Worcestershire, and held onto the trophy in 2019. We competed again for the Severn Challenge Cup in June this year but sadly lost to Ripple who now hold the cup.
Caldicot u3a Short Mat Bowls group made it to the finals of the Monmouthshire Triples Tournament. The four teams included in the semi finals were Caldicot, 2 teams from Magor and a team from Dingestow. The results in all four matches were close but sadly we didn't get through to the Final. Dingestow were the winners and now hold the Trophy for 2023.
We are playing in the Monmouthshire League and after 4 matches are in 3rd place. We have another 10 matches to play and hope to do better than last year.
