Each month we visit a different church where we are given a tour by an experienced guide (usually the vicar, curate or local historian) focussing on the history and architecture of the building, after which the guide will answer any questions we may have. The visit usually includes refreshments, often provided by the church staff or occasionally at a local café. This gives us an opportunity to discuss the visit and exchange views over a refreshing drink.
There is no limit on the number of members but you do need to let the Group Leader know if you will be attending. There is usually a donation/ collection of £2.50 per person to cover any church heating, refreshments and upkeep.
We take a short break in December and January (due to seasonal activities) and we start again in February. Last year we visited:
The Orthodox Monastery of St John the Baptist, Tolleshunt Knights;
St Mary the Virgin, Ardleigh;
St John the Baptist, Thaxted;
St Mary's Church, Stoke-by-Nayland;
St Edmund Kind & Martyr, Tendring;
St Andrew's Church, Halstead;
St Thomas' Church, Bradwell-on-Sea and The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall, Bradwell-on-Sea;
St Mary the Virgin, Gestingthorpe;
Methodist Church, Manningtree
