Sports - Petanque
This group was established in 2012. Our current venue is at a local hostelry, The Wooden Fender, Ardleigh, where there is a large terrain suitable for any number of members playing. There is no charge to play but we expect members to purchase a drink at the bar as our appreciation for the use of the venue. Snacks are readily available. The new Petanque season will resume in March 2019 and will continue until October/November. Lifts can be arranged to the venue.
At the end of the season we hold an informal Individual Annual Competition for our U3A Petanque Trophy, which the winner keeps safe until the new season. Rob, last years winner, is seen in the photograph presenting the Trophy to Linda the winner of the 2018 competition. Alec came 2nd and Betty and Phil came joint 3rd. This is our last session of the year; we recommence in March 2019.
We welcome all new players to this very addictive sport; instruction can be provided. It is possible to become quite accurate very quickly; playing as part of a team, develops tactical and observational skills. We aim to have fun while practising the skills of 'pointing' and 'shooting' in the sport of Boules from a standing spot within a designed circle (which is why it is called Petanque to differentiate from Boules). Trainers as footwear are advised but no other equipment is required as boules, scoreboards, jacks (cochonet) and measures are provided.
