Military History
About the group:-
Talks, discussions and visits regarding Military History.
We continued with our Falklands War theme in July and again in September, with an account by Geoff Weighell of his experiences and those of so many other servicemen who risked their lives during that conflict.
The “yomping” across the hostile terrain and the logistics of transporting men and equipment was fascinating and scary: we all found it amazing to listen to.
Then again in early September we were honoured to have a return visit from Dr Gregory Fremont-Barnes, a senior lecturer at Sandhurst, who gave us further insight into the planning, operational nightmares and “behind the scenes” thinking of the conflict. He had such recall of dates, places and events that we were completely amazed by things he told us of which we simply had had no previous knowledge or concept.
We were so very lucky and privileged to hear two such excellent speakers, and we have a very fine programme lined up for the rest of this year and into 2023. If you would like to join this very popular Group, we meet on the first Monday of the month at Easton Royal Village Hall at 10.30am, although we get there just after 10.00am for a coffee and brief natter before getting underway.
