CHINES
About the group:-
CHINES stands for CHurches, INns, and EStates. We enjoy visits to houses, churches, gardens or other places of interest. We usually include taking lunch taken an Inn or Pub as well!
Our outings are open to all Pewsey Vale u3a members, not just a few named people.
Numbers however may be limited by the venue, the guide or the pub, which means that bookings are on a first come first served basis.
Visits are selected and researched by individual group members.
Since we last reported, we have had guided walks of Calne and Malmesbury and a visit to Salthrop House garden (under the National Gardens Scheme). They’ve all been delightful days out and even the weather has co-operated. We’re very lucky in having the services of several helpful, pleasant and well informed guides, who are a delight to work with and who make our job so much easier. And we’ve seen some beautiful churches and, of course, eaten some tasty pub lunches. Our outings appear on the diary page in each newsletter and I let members know when we are taking bookings. Remember that it is first come, first served as places are usually limited, but it’s very rare that we have to turn anyone away.
The main things you need to know about our visits:-
Transport is not provided. You need to get there under your own steam. We do recommend car sharing and will help facilitate this if need be. There are costs involved for entry into the venue and/or a guide, as well as for refreshments and lunch. We are on our feet for much of the time, walking and/or standing.
