STROLLERS
We welcome new members.
The group was founded in 2008 to meet the needs of a number of U3A members who enjoyed walking, but could only manage short distances. We walk on alternate Saturday mornings throughout the year.
Walks are mostly in and around Rotherham. It never ceases to amaze us that we have such lovely countryside and parkland on our doorstep with pretty villages such as Whiston, Laughton and Wentworth, woodland in Wickersley, Treeton and Scholes, waterside walks at Old Moor Wetlands, Ulley and Rother Valley Country Park, even a swannery and boatyard near the town centre. Yes, I know there are lots more!
We walk at a gentle pace and members enjoy the companionship of like-minded people. In keeping with U3A principles extra costs are rarely incurred.
No special equipment is needed - just stout shoes, boots or even trainers in dry weather and dress according to weather conditions.
Alternate Saturday mornings.
Because most members now travel by car and buses can be infrequent and unreliable, we have decided from 2 March 2024 to meet at 10 am for all walks. Please offer lifts and car-share where possible.
I will endeavour to plan a variety of walks with convenient parking, mostly within the Rotherham area but occasionally a little further afield.
If you know of a walk we might not have done before, please let me know. I would also be delighted if anyone is able to lead/co-lead a walk with either Sue and Roger or me, especially a ‘new’ one.
“Walk and be happy, walk and be healthy. The best way to lengthen out our days is to walk steadily and with a purpose.”

YOU CAN ALSO CLICK THE LINK ON THIS PAGE TO SEE AN ARTICLE ON THEIR FIRST WALK (after being closed during the Covid pandemic) ALONG THE ROTHERHAM CANAL TOWARDS MEADOWHALL: 'Strollers walk 5 June21'. Since then walks have mainly been circular, so that as many people as possible could travel to the start by car and also give other members a lift.
There are also several articles and photos on various walks, please click the links on this page to view - including a Walk and Meal to celebrate 15 years of strolling! (April 2023)
NOTE: Walks may be cancelled at short notice in inclement weather.
