LITERATURE
Group Leader - Diana Green
Tuesday 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm fortnightly
Venue - Group Leader’s Home
The group consists of nine members. Over the fifteen years of existence the group has developed a way of working that suits them. All members are independent readers. We like to tackle the great tomes of literature that we would not perhaps get through on our own. War and Peace, Bleak House, Middlemarch are just a few we have read. We spend several months on each text. Members of the group read it independently. By way of preparation, I mark passages for us to read aloud and discuss. The ensuing discussion can be anecdote, memory, observation, opinion - whatever. What matters is we have lots of fun.
The Literature group is currently approaching the end of Anne Tyler's A Patchwork Planet. We have had lots of fascinating discussions about the family dynamic of the high-achieving Gaitlin family and how it has worked to achieve black-sheep Barnaby. Next book will be Kate Atkinson's Behind the Scenes at the Museum.
Over the past year or so, two of our members have, sadly, died and we find we have spaces. If you think the literature group would suit you, get in touch with the Groups' Co-ordinator via the CONTACT.
