In November we read extracts from Hilary Mantel’s A Memoir of My Former Self,
published in 2023, a year after her death in 2022. The book is a collection of essays, book and film
reviews and her 2017 Reith Lectures.
This group is not a book club as we do not read whole books.
Extracts, supplied at each session, are read aloud and members comment
and discuss as we go along, when and if they want to.
December’s topic was Hilary Mantel on Jane Austen, based on ‘Not Everybody’s Dear Jane’,
first published in the New York Review of Books in 1998.

which will continue in March.
We have become very involved with Emma so in April we’ll stay with her.
May’s subject will be Hamlet
