~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Family history is a complex subject and our current members have varying levels of experience. We are very much a self-help group that is focused on sharing knowledge. Our meetings are planned to include workshops on various aspects of family history research, talks by invited speakers who are experts in the field and help with problems members are finding such as “brick walls”. In addition, members can talk about web sites or courses they have found useful.
We hold our meetings at The Maltings on Mondays once per month at 3.45 pm. Wi-Fi is available so we can all bring our computers/tablets. We now benefit from new televisions in both rooms, which are much better for our talks and presentations. A small charge is made for hire of the Maltings.
Our meeting dates for 2024 are as follows. The topics to be covered at these meetings will be as shown below.
29 January - Wills and old handwriting (Palaeography)
26 February - Newspapers
25 March - Show and Tell: "Something of my Grandparents"
22 April - A visit from Cambridge FamilySearch Centre (LDS)
20 May - Talk by Trish Conder on George Frederick MacDougall
17 June - Immigration and emigration
15 July - Talk on "Sourcing English Ancestors in the Long 18th Century (1680-1837)" by Else Churchill
12 August - Sources and citations
9 September - Review of members' pedigree charts
7 October - Brickwall busting - mutual help
4 November
2 December - Christmas meeting
We are also considering trips to The Really Useful Show at St Ives on 20th April and to the Cambridge FamilySearch Centre (LDS) following their visit to us.
New members are always welcome, especially complete beginners who wish to make a start on their family tree. If you would like to join us, we look forward to seeing you.
