The Italian Conversation group has been meeting since March 2016 and meets once a week on a Wednesday from 10.00 to 11.30 am at the Angel & Harp Public House at Church End, Dunmow.
We have six members with various levels of experience from some who have never attempted to learn Italian before to others who have attended Italian courses in the past.
For our first book, we chose the Contatti Italian Beginner's Course (3rd Edition) which came with a set of CD's. We have worked through this book and are now using two new books - BBC Buongiorno Italia (also with CD's) and Easy Italian Reader. Each week we set ourselves homework to prepare us for the next meeting.
Everything seems a lot harder than when we had French lessons at school but we think we are making progress. Italians speak very quickly (at least that is the way it seems to us!) so we find reading text easier than speech.
Most of us enjoy visiting Italy but have realised that if we want to improve our Italian we need to try and avoid Italians who want to improve their English!
