Exe Valley

Programme

Meetings are currently being at the Cherith Centre, Blundell's Road, Tiverton, EX16 4BZ third Wednesday of the month at 1.45 for 2.00pm.

At our most recent committee meeting we were pleased to note that the number of "hits" to the Exe Valley u3a website is increasing month on month. This is a most encouraging trend which we hope will continue as it is a great way of providing and sharing information as well
as alerting potential new members of all the varied and interesting activities they would enjoy if they were to join us.
Whilst thinking about our members "online", we wondered how many of you may have gone on and taken the opportunity to have a look at the National u3a website? Is this something you do regularly, occasionally or perhaps not at all? There is a wealth of information on the national site about what is happening at other u3as elsewhere across the country as well as help and guidance for Group Leaders plus ideas and opportunities for individual training and other activities that you might care to pursue.
If you haven't done so before, may I encourage you to spend a moment or two and have a look at the national website. Your committee is interested to know what you think either about it or indeed of any thoughts and ideas you may have to help improve and grow our own local u3a.

An email was sent recently asking you for your opinions on a number of questions including what other social activities, eg coach trips, treasure hunt, quizzes etc that you might wish to support. Rather disappointingly there have been only a handful of responses so far so we are asking you to spend a few minutes of your time to have a look at the survey questionnaire and let us have your thoughts please.

One idea which we intend to implement with immediate effect is to have a raffle at the monthly
meetings. Your ideas for other fund-raising schemes would be most welcome.

Despite the dreadful blizzard 30 intrepid members travelled to Bristol to see the rescued wreck that was the SSGreatBritain now restored and in dry dock at the Great Western Dockyard in Bristol. The attraction was interesting and interactive with a wealth of information detailing the history of the vessel. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the SSGreatBritain was the first iron built ocean liner. Despite the wet a good day out was enjoyed by all.
