Welcome to Royston U3A
We are delighted to welcome you to Royston U3A.
The University of the Third Age is a vibrant organisation that works through local groups to offer opportunities to make new friends, discover new interests and learn in interesting and varied ways.
Royston U3A was formed in May 2015 and now has over 500 members. We embarked on our fourth year following a well attended AGM in June 2019. If you are already semi-retired or retired, you would be very welcome to join us. (Further details appear below.)
Self Help Learning
The U3A is a university in the sense of bringing people together who have an interest in gaining new knowledge, developing their skills or simply taking part in purposeful cultural and social activities. Much of our activity takes place in Interest Groups. Groups already underway and some of those currently being planned are listed on the website under Groups.
Although we believe strongly in the value of lifelong learning, the U3A is not a university in the sense of being involved in accredited courses and qualifications.
How It Works
Royston U3A, along with all similar groups, is entirely self-funded through membership subscription. We are affiliated to the national organisation, the Third Age Trust, which is a representative body for U3As throughout the UK. The Trust supports the work of local U3As and provides summer schools, conferences and a regularly published magazine.
We would be delighted to welcome you as a new member.
The cost of membership for April 2019 - March 2020 is £14. (Members of other U3A groups who are able to provide proof of membership pay a reduced rate of £10.50). The Membership Application Form, which should be returned to the Membership Secretary (details on the form), is available here: Membership Form Q1 2020.
Please contact the Membership Secretary if you need further information.
