Events Diary

We hold an open members' meeting very month except for May, August and December. This is on the 3rd Monday of the month in the Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton. Doors open at 12.30pm when people can meet together and find out what is going on from group leaders and a display of forthcoming events. After refreshments we welcome a guest speaker presenting a matter of interest to u3a members. May's meeting is our Annual General Meeting. In August members enjoy a picnic in the Jubilee Hall garden. December is our Christmas party and entertainment.

Meetings
Mon Apr 15th Roger Browne will bring his musical presentation on the Life and Times of George and Ira Gershwin. This is the story of their life and their phenomenal contribution to American music. Roger Browne is an actor, singer, speaker, musician, director, composer and writer. As a jazz pianist, he has accompanied many top International and UK based jazz artists. Roger, now, apart from playing piano for Manchester Jazz and various of his own groups, delivers talks featuring stories, songs, and interpretations of music by Gershwin, Kern, Porter etc in his own inimitable piano style.

  • Dukeries u3a – Treasurer Needed

1 Could you donate on average one hour per week to volunteer your time?
2 Are you able to complete a spreadsheet with income and expenditure?
3 Can you manage on-line banking?
The role of our Treasurer is a key position in the management of Dukeries u3a and we cannot function without one. Our new financial year starts in April 2024 and we need a Treasurer to set up a new financial year and look after our members’ money in our two bank accounts. Are you that person? Please email Leslye Henstock at du3achair2020@gmail.com and let’s arrange to talk. Training and support is available. A Laptop is available for your use in this role.

  • Dukeries u3a - Chair needed - role includes -

1/ Agreeing the agenda for the committee meeting with the Business Secretary, and chairing the meeting, (two hours, third Monday each month).
2/ Attending 3 meetings per year, usually in Ravenshead, with other Chairs from u3as around Nottinghamshire.
3/ Taking part in organising and opening the Monthly Members’ Meetings.
4/ Writing a foreword for the monthly newsletter.
5/ Supporting other Committee Members in their roles where necessary.

supporting the Chair, in all of the above and maybe, in the future, move into the role of Chair. Can you help? Or do you know anyone who can? Please do what you can to support this plea!

  • Dukeries u3a - Minute Secretary needed -

could you take notes for us at our committee meetings? These are held on the third Monday of each month at Jubilee Hall for up to two hours. The notes are then typed for distribution. We are needing someone to start in May 2024. Can you help? If you could, please would you contact our secretary James at dukeriesu3asec@gmail.com

After the business meeting and refreshments we will be pleased to introduce our musical entertainment and photographic presentation and you will have the opportunity to purchase from our bring and buy table.

Outings
Fri Apr 26th Bletchley Park is an English country house and estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) that became the principal centre of Allied code-breaking during the Second World War. Dukeries u3a is arranging a day out on Friday 26 April 2024.
The cost for the trip, which includes an entry ticket which lasts 12 months, guided tour and coach travel is approx. £49 (non-refundable) Payment to secure booking the visit and coach, will be required in full in February. Fri May 31st An exclusive trip for Dukeries u3a members to Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum. Just £2 donation includes tea or coffee. Tour starts at 10.30. There is free parking and if it's a sunny day you could bring a picnic to enjoy in the garden after the tour.
Fri Jun 28th A guided tour of Southwell Minster. The cost is £15 which includes the tour starting at 10.00am, with a break for lunch (not included in the price), then an optional seated afternoon concert at 1.30pm. On concert days it is advisable to book lunch in the Refectory. We have been advised that it also gets busy in the town so advance booking there is advisable as well. Forest Town u3a would like to invite Dukeries u3a members on their Turkey and Tinsel trip to Tenby from Monday 4 to Friday 8 November 2024. This includes coach travel and hotel with half board. Happy Hour each day 20.00 to 21.00 hours and nightly entertainment

Wed Jun 26th North Notts u3a's Picnic in Sherwood Forest next to RSPB visitor centre.
Dukeries u3a are joining with our other local groups to showcase our organisation. There will be fun and games and music. Our event starts at 11am up to 3.00pm. The event is free for everybody. Parking at the RSPB site is £5 for all day, free to RSPB members.
Bring your own chairs, table and picnic or eat at the cafe on site. Hazel and John will be leading a walk around the forest.
Wed Jul 10th Evening Cruise on the Trent from Newark. Wednesday 10th July. Coach will pick up in Forest Town, Edwinstowe and Ollerton. Arrive at Colwick Marina. The boat departs 6.30pm, Meal includes chicken, salads, potatoes and breads (vegetarian on request). Black Forest Gateau and cream as dessert. Voucher for 2 drinks from the bar. DJ on board for music. Boat returns at 9.30pm. Coach departs for the return journey. Ticket, which includes all the above, is £37 per person.
Sat Jul 27th Forest Town u3a invite you to their Black and White Summer Event at Forest Town Arena starting at 7pm. The price is £15 per person to include complimentary Pimms on arrival, buffet, entertainment with a 20 piece swing band. Car or taxi sharing can be arranged.
