Wine Appreciation 2
We are a very friendly group which meets on the 4th Friday of the month from 6.30pm until 9pm though some people need a bit longer to finish their glass! We meet at each other's houses on a rotation basis and the host for the month emails the group members and provides information on the format for the evening.
Normally we have red and white and the occasional rose or sparkling wine to taste. Sometimes the host asks everyone to bring a bottle or occasionally the host buys the wine and everyone helps out to meet the cost (perhaps £5 a head). As the numbers have recently increased to thirteen in our group, we are currently working on a solution to accommodate everyone as not all group members have sufficient space in their respective homes. So unfortunately, we are unable to accept new members at the moment.
Our expertise in wine tasting varies from the enthusiastic to very enthusiastic! Members of the group are encouraged to do a little bit of research before each meeting though not everyone does. It is very much a personal choice. However, geography skills have improved as an additional learning point as we have 'travelled' across South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Europe and North America. We have yet to taste wines from less well known regions such Canada (eg the Okanagan and Ontario) or Lebanon and Georgia but I'm sure we will be doing so in 2019.
