Amblers & Walkers Groups
We have four walking groups which provide for different distances and terrain.
The Amblers and Walkers groups have all been known to quench their thirst and have lunch during the course of a walk.

AMBLERS
Walks up to 4 miles at a gentle pace (and as far as possible, free of stiles, hills and mud)
Winter walks are normally on hard surfaces or town walks. Our current programme includes London walks, coastal walks and summer countryside walks. The Amblers is a friendly sociable group and there is normally a pub lunch at the end of each walk. Over the last few months we have walked around Edenbridge, Warnham, Shoreham, Henfield, Cranleigh, Handcross and East Grinstead and our future programme will offer a similar variety of locations.
AMBLERS EXTRA
This group has been formed for those who want to walk at a steady, moderate pace. Our walks are usually 4 miles (sometimes a little longer) and usually take approximately two and a half hours (brief pauses for places of interest and water breaks included). Walkers need to be able to cope with uneven ground, inclines, steps and stiles as we walk across all terrains. In addition, all our members are being encouraged to lead a walk at least once a year. The Amblers Extra is a friendly social group and there is normally a pub lunch at the end of our walk.
WALKERS
Longer walks up to 5 miles. Third Friday of the month at the Hawth Car Park.
We have many varied and interesting walks through our ever changing countryside, some in areas we have not visited before, thus broadening our horizons and introducing us to new venues.
A good walk in good company with a good lunch at the end makes you glad to be alive!
WALKERS EXTRA
Walkers Extra enjoy walks of 4-7 miles (sometimes longer).
Walking boots are essential as we walk on all terrains. We are a friendly group with most walks between 2.1/2-3 hours and ending at a pub for lunch. These walks are in a variety of locations including many sections of The London Capital Ring.
We meet on the 4th Thursday of the month and we car share to cut down on the number of cars journeying to the beginning of the walk. We try to limit the journey to the start of the walk to around 30 minutes. If we are walking in London, we meet at Three Bridges station and catch the train together.
The group is restricted to 26 members and is full at the moment. All members are expected to take their turn each year, in pairs, to organise and lead a walk and coordinate the lunch orders.
Bringing up the rear!
As o'er the lovely vales and hills - Your happy hikers troup,
Don't forget that lonely guy - The Backmarker of the group.
He's gathering in the stragglers, He’s closing up the ranks.
But for all his dedicated work - He gets precious little thanks.
He helps his colleagues over stiles, And stays to close the gates.
He's often left quite far behind, For no-one ever waits.
You can take in all the sights, As you chatter to your chums.
The only sight he ever sees - Is other people's bums.
The party goes quite far ahead, Then stops to rest and scoff,
But immediately he catches up - The whole lot wanders off.
And when at last he passes on, He knows he's naught to fear.
He’s earned his place in Paradise, Just bringing up the rear.
