Genealogy 1
To some people 'genealogy' and 'family history' have the same meaning. But these terms have subtle but different meanings. Genealogy, the study of ancestry and descent, refers more to the actual search for ancestors, while family history is about events in our ancestors' lives; the telling of a family's story.
In this group we do both! We search for our ancestors and discover where they lived, what they did for a living and what they got up to in their private lives.
Research in this group is computer based and basic computer skill is essential. We all record our family trees using family history software.
We meet once a month usually on the third Wednesday from 2-4pm. At our meetings, members report any progress and we work together as a group to solve mysteries raised by individual research. We aim to make Family history fun!
Stubbington U3A has several genealogy groups at different levels of experience. Some of the groups are more experienced researchers and some are researchers still developing their skills.
