There are currently three film groups in Sherborne U3A. Films 1, World Cinema and Films 4.
Films 1 meets at a member's house in Sherborne at 7pm on the first Monday of the month.
Films 2 has ceased meeting for the moment.
World Cinema, previously known as Films 3, meets in a member's house in Thornford on the first Monday evening of the month from September to June. We show ten films a year and aim to show movies of different genres from different countries. Since September 2018 we have seen:
|Les Parapluies de Cherbourg||France||Musical romance|
|Grave of the Fireflies||Japan||Animation|
|Death of Stalin||UK/USA||Political satire|
|Bombom||Patagonia||Creature feature/road movie|
|The Secret in Their Eyes||Argentina||Crime drama|
|Let the Right One In||Sweden||Horror|
Films 4 meets monthly on the second Monday in the evening and only shows foreign films with subtitles.
Meetings begin with an introduction to the film, then we watch a DVD and, afterward, discuss it. The films have all been well reviewed and are outside the usual run of films that can be seen on the circuit. Many are foreign with English subtitles. To give some flavour of the selection, in the past we have watched:
The Illusionist (French)
Of Gods and Men (French)
Cherry Blossoms (German/Japanese)
A Separation (Iranian)
Le Quattro Volte (Italian)
Midnight in Paris (American)
