7 January 2016 Future Meeting Plans:
Planning forward we had about half a dozen film suggestions last time and more have come in since. So I'm going to suggest that in each season (September to April?) we include a film, or more than one, from each of the following categories:

a British film classic
a foreign film classic (likely to be subtitled)
a contemporary classic, say of the last 20 years - any language
the movie you would never tire of seeing again and again - each of us pick one
a genre movie (western. comedy, crime, scifi, war, horror etc)
other category suggestions from the group

Apart from enjoying a good film, I seem to remember in discussion that we agreed the group should provides us with an opportunity to experience a wide range of cinematic experiences and an appreciation of the world of movie making out there. Sometimes maybe outside our comfort zone, but always a quality experience!

Anyway, food for thought. Suggestions appreciated as always. Talk amongst yourselves.

Next Meeting:
Next showing "The Angel's Share" (Ken Loach) at the home of Viveca and John Port, Big Sand on January 11th at 7.30pm.

Please email or contact Viveca direct if you intend to come in January so she knows the numbers.

A synopsis and short crit of the film will be emailed in advance.

Reports from Previous Meeting:

Monday 7th December 2015

Nice evening had by all. Enjoyable film. Enjoyable discussion. Technical expertise from Viveca and John. What's not to like.

General agreement to the format:

meet once a month for the winter season
discuss the film after showing - film appreciation as a group
email Dave in advance with ideas for films
pick monthly choice from ideas into a hat/box or some such
preference for limited number of films with subtitles in each season
mix of commercial and art films
mix of the best historical and contemporary
ideas so far - The Ladykillers, Fantasia, Orpheus, Sophie's Choice, Brighton Rock, A Matter of Life and Death, Gregory's Girl, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, the Angel's Share

There will be a meeting on 13th October at 15:00 at the GALE centre to discuss the development of the group.
