The group meet on the second Thursday of the month at 2 pm. in a members home.
People ask:- "HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY DO ASTRONOMY IN THE DAYLIGHT?" Well........
Our host records everything that appears on TV from" the Sky at Night" to "Brian Cox", We decide at the meeting which we would like to watch and a good discussion always follows whilst we enjoy tea and biscuits.
We have visited the local Astronomy Centre at Bacup where they were introduced to the many different types of telescopes located there, including a 30" Dobsonian built in 1985 to view Halley's comet, and which was visited by its inventor John Dobson himself in 2002. We were also treated to a demonstration of the Camera Obscura in the main dome.
We realise how lucky we are to be so close to Bacup Observatory Centre and now make regular visits about every 3 or 4 months. We choose a topic and they put together a mindblowing presentation which keeps us talking all the way home. Also, some of us like Starwatching on dark night but Binoculars and thermal underwear are advisable.
If anyone wishes to join us, you will be made most welcome. - telephone Pearl Wensley on 01706 373743 or 07581014230 for further details, or send her a message by clicking on the bird at the top of this page.
