Local History 2
When: 3rd Tuesday of month, 2.00 pm
Where: Light Railway Function Room, Hythe
----- The Local History Group 2 meets on the third Tuesday of the month in Hythe. Last year, a member gave a presentation on the development of bus services on Romney Marsh in the 20th century, and members contributed to two meetings where we looked at the lives of well-known people with links to Folkestone, Hythe and the Marsh area. A presentation on the origins and evolution of the Romney Marsh area ran for two meetings and an outside speaker gave a talk on Dr. Randall Davies and other Hythe GPs in the 19/20th centuries. We also watched a video by David Starkey on the history of the Cinque Ports and heard the first of two talks on Shepway's lost railways.
During last summer, we visited Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre.
