u3a in Scotland Summer School

Tuesday 20 – Thursday 22 August 2024

University of Stirling

u3a in Scotland is running its fourth Summer School this August. As in 2022 it will take place in the hotel and Conference Centre on the beautiful campus of Stirling University.
Each of the well-attended summer schools to date has been a great success. You can learn a new subject or try a new activity in very relaxed and comfortable surroundings and a friendly, sociable atmosphere. Students, tutors and organisers are all u3a members. Two of the tutors are members of Bearsden and Milngavie u3a.
Participants choose one topic to study, in a group. Most people choose to stay, but it is also possible to attend as a day delegate.
Subject to demand it is planned to run six courses:

  • Creative Craft (Fabric Pictures);
  • How your ‘Smart’ Devices Work (an Introduction to Programming)
  • Drug Discovery (Where our Medicines Come From);
  • Play Writing (Creating Characters);
  • Strolling to Admire Nature (the flora, fauna and nature around us)
  • Drawing (for beginners and improvers)

u3a Online Across Scotland: Coffee House Meetings

In the 18th Century in Scotland people often got together in Coffee Houses to discuss new ideas and matters of the day. Online Across Scotland is delighted to present an online equivalent for the digital age with a series of interactive discussions. All Meetings start at 4pm and take the form of a presentation followed by discussion.

The series dates and details are listed in the Events diary at bottom of this page and Zoom links can be found by clicking u3a Online Across Scotland or copy and paste the following into your browser:

Demonstrations

We are planning to reintroduce these varied events. Unlike monthly meeting talks these are informal meetings for a smaller group given largely by members. Please click a link on the right hand side list to access some previous Demonstrations and Talks.

Could you give a practical demonstration?

Are there any interests, skill or hobby you would like to find out more about and see demonstrated or do you have a craft, skill or hobby that you could demonstrate or share? Let us know and we will help to organise it and/or support you, if possible.

u3a Science Network

The u3a Science Network periodically hosts virtual meetings; click Science Network or copy https://u3asites.org.uk/u3asciencenetwork/home into your browser for details on future meetings and bookings; see also Events Diary below.
