We held our inaugural meeting on Thursday 26th. Feb. 2015. Eight members took advantage
of Angela's offer to provide the venue whilst building work at Stoneybrough is taking place.
The format for the first evening was based on the 'donor' of the wine giving a label description, followed by a brief anecdotal account as to how, why, when and where, it had been discovered.
The first cork drawn was a sparkling wine of Italian descent. It was reminiscent of the wine drunk and enjoyed among locals, whilst on an anniversary trip to Venice. How much was consumed was not disclosed.
The next was a 'light, easy drinking red', another Italian wine from Tuscany. Discovered locally with the aid of a Christmas period Sunday supplement. Should it be available during the summer, it may help to prop up the stores other 'sideline', the sale of ladies lingerie.
A little more weighty Riocha was the third offering. Spotted and purchased locally it evokes memories of time spent in voluntary exile while adhering to the adage 'When in Rome' etc.
The usual effect had been achieved and several loosely connected tangents were explored, including visits to the Lebanon, Cyprus, Algeria, Thirkleby and the USA. A delightful evening, hopefully to be repeated.
