Family History
Harrogate U3A Family History group.
Harrogate Family History Group are a like minded group of individuals who like to find out about their ancestors; not just names and dates but how they may have lived their lives. Ancestors do not have to be local to Yorkshire, in fact within our group, ancestors have been found in most parts of the world.
Some of our members are new to family history and others have had years of experience, but we are all willing to help one another. For those who are new to family history, guidance is available with general questions that may be asked, such as, “where do I start?”, “how do I record my findings?”
We meet on the second Thursday of the month from 2pm until 4pm, alternating in person by the kind invitation of the Family History Centre on Wetherby Road, and on zoom. On the zoom meetings we usually have an outside speaker, and we share this event with the Ripon u3a Family History group. If you have never used zoom or are a bit unsure how to use it help is on hand to set you up.
Our own members sometimes present their findings and share their research. This usually opens the floor to informal discussions on Family History topics.
Our charges are usually about £5 per year for those who do not partake in the zoom meetings, and £10 per year for those who do zoom.
You may not have an ancestor who was famous, but you may find an ancestor who was infamous!
