The Family History group meets twice a month at 2pm on the second and fourth Thursday afternoons of the month. Our members have ancestors from all over the UK and some from overseas. We have members with differing levels of expertise.
For the foreseeable future, all meetings will be via zoom, and not face to face. Usually, each month there will be an illustrated talk. This might be from one of our members or a guest speaker. Then the second meeting will be more of a discussion-based event. From this sharing, we learn about the resources available for our own research and the difficulties others have experienced and how they were overcome. We are not just interested in seeing how far back we can go, or how many names can be found in a family tree, but in fleshing out details about the life of our ancestors.
Recently, the Harrogate U3A family history group has merged with the Ripon U3A family history group. This keeps the groups alive and has given us the opportunity to enjoy the friendship and expertise of more members, while coronavirus social distancing has reduced numbers.
