HARLOW U3A NEWSLETTER - Volunteers, Articles and Photos Needed

The Newsletter has become an enjoyable and informative read every two months that has improved and grown through the efforts of our editors, Margarete and Terry. Unfortunately Margarete is unable to continue and Terry is in need of an assistant/understudy and any support offered. Please consider joining the Newsletter Team so that we can keep delivering the news and entertainment that keeps our members informed and the broader community interested in our U3A.

To reduce printing costs and the editor's workload the newsletter will be published quarterly in 2020, (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct.) A printed, limited colour edition is available at the monthly meeting. To save printing costs please download a full colour copy from the website the weekend before the meeting.

Contributions in the form of Articles and Photos from the Groups are always welcome. - The articles can be as brief as you like - please just take a few minutes to let everyone know how much you enjoy your group's activities.

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE

The U3A is an international self-help learning organisation for "3rd Agers". In the UK the national umbrella organization, The Third Age Trust ("TAT") is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Harlow U3A is an unincorporated charity that functions for the broader benefit of society. Harlow U3A is an operationally independent affiliate of TAT. U3A members are typically retired or semi-retired from paid employment and wish to share their skills, interests and experience with others. Harlow U3A provides many opportunities to try new hobbies and activities, to socialize, and join others supporting the community in volunteer roles.

Check the "Volunteer" page for local volunteering opportunities.

Everyone who is on the committee, runs one of the groups or helps at monthly meetings is a volunteer. Getting involved is a great way to make new friends, be socially active, to know what is happening within the U3A and engage with the wider community.

Find more about the history and ethos of the U3A on the National Organization's website, accessed via the "U3A" Page of this website, where you can also sign up for the monthly 'National U3A Newsletter'.

HARLOW U3A

Harlow and Surrounding Areas U3A was formed in January 2008. We have about 900 paid up members and 75 interest groups at the beginning of 2019. Check the Groups Page for a flavour and variety of interests/activities and find more details on groups that interest you. Contact information and meeting times of current groups are available on the Groups Page and also in the Newsletter.

The member-run groups are at the heart of the U3A. Every encouragement is given to serve more interests and start new groups. Interest group members manage their own arrangements and expenses, subject to general guidelines and rules on cash handling.

There is a monthly general meeting, usually the 4th Monday of the month, at Paringdon Sports Club, Paringdon Road, Great Parndon, Harlow, CM19 4QT from 10.00 to 12.30am. Actual meeting dates via the link ==>
Details of speakers etc. on the Meetings Page

Visitors are always welcome as prospective members at our monthly meetings and pay a £2.00 fee. This is a "one-time" opportunity to comply with insurance requirements.

The Events Page provides information on local events likely to be of interest to members including performances (theatre, cinema, music, art etc.) and community events. When available links are provided to more information and ticket sales. You can also subscribe to an email list for regular updates and news.
