Meetings will be approx. every month, on a Tuesday and at various times to fit in with speakers. All are welcome

We are a relative new group and at the moment have monthly speakers to cover topics in which the group members have expressed an interest in. In the future, when more established we aim to form some smaller groups to research various Local History subjects such as Plaques and Memorials, KSIA, Stone Circles, Gravestones, Cumbrian Literary etc.

Dates for your Diary
Tue Feb 25th A visit to the Alhambra. We will be shown a film to celebrate the centenary of the cinema in 2014 followed by a guided tour "behind the scenes" - an opportunity to see parts of the cinema not normally seen.
Tue Mar 24th Tom Snaith will give an illustrated talk entitled -"Sarah Losh, Builder of Wreay Church" in the Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick at 3pm
Tue Apr 21st Ray Greenhow will give an illustrated talk on Henry Irwin Jenkinson. Jenkinson was a driving force behind the creation of Fitz Park,the footpath battles, the annual Old Folks "Do" and the sports meeting and regatta in 1878. He was a renowned guidebook writer of the local area.
The meeting will take place at 3 pm in the Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick.
Tue May 26th Sylvia Pilling will lead the Local History Group on a "Literary" walk around town. More details to follow
Tue Jun 30th Ros Downing has research the rich history of the textile mill, Stead McAlpin and will give us an illustrated talk on her findings. The meeting will be at 3pm, Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick
Tue Jul 21st A trip to Caldbeck to learn about this very important industrial and agricultural village in past centuries. Of particular interest now are the abandoned Howk Bobbin Mill with what was once the largest water wheel in England. Ann will lead this trip and more details to follow nearer the time.
Tue Sep 22nd Ron East will give a talk about Bell Ringing and the Crosthwaite Church Tower. The meeting will be in the Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick at 3pm.
Tue Oct 20th An illustrated talk on the early motor trade in Keswick by Brian Hinde. 3pm in the Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road. Keswick.
Tue Nov 17th Mark Hatton will give an illustrated talk entitled "German Miners in Elizabethan Keswick". 3pm Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick. Depending on the weather the group may also go for a walk to see the site of a smelter, built in 1567 by German miners, which was at the time the largest and most advanced copper smelter in Europe.
Tue Dec 8th A light hearted local quiz and Festive get-together. 3 pm Crosthwaite Room, Keswick Museum, Station Road, Keswick
