About the Geology Group
Edinburgh u3a Geology Group has been running since 2010. We continue to have the support of the Edinburgh Geological Society (EGS) and in particular, Angus Miller in preparing a programme of first-rate talks, walks, trips and visits. As well, we are affiliated with the Scottish Geology Trust. Please consider clicking the links to join the Trust and/or make a donation.
Self-led walks are an important activity for Geology Group members. Everyone joining in the walks has an active role, sharing their knowledge (not just geology but history, nature, local, social aspects etc.) and sharing the organisation of the walk. In many cases, participants will use geoconservation leaflets available from the Edinburgh Geological Society. These walks are intended to be self-guided so there is no expert geological input or leader. Small groups of around 6 people organise themselves to explore the chosen localities on the leaflets - all or some. Participants share findings, photos, and questions, and may do a short presentation to subsequent monthly meetings.
To join the group you must be a member of Edinburgh u3a. If you want to make contact with the Geology Group, email John Wrench.
