DESCRIPTION: We are a small but perfectly formed group studying Spanish from very first principles with a patient, understanding and occasionally exasperated guru. Other than for basic holiday purposes none of us have really experienced Spanish before but our very rusty O Level French has helped. We are learning by following published courses such as the Oxford University Press Take Off In Spanish which concentrates on developing listening and speaking skills to help beginners like us communicate effectively in Spanish in everyday situations.
No one has a pressing need to learn the language - we are doing it for the challenge and this helps make the sessions fun, despite the homework! At our last session we were provided with a few Spanish newspapers and magazines to have a look at which was a bit daunting (so much to learn...) but nevertheless a very good learning device.
Our group has been working together since September 2014 and, as we have made some good progress, we would suggest that any potential new members should already have a basic grasp of the language.
