Yoga is a holistic discipline which uses physical postures and an awareness of breath to help still and focus the mind. We include both men and women, who are either beginners or have a little experience. We wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, and bring a mat and a blanket.
We meet at the North Inch Bowling Club hall, this provides a lovely light airy space with a very good floor and easy access. Our sessions are held fortnightly over the Autumn through to the Spring. Adaptions can be provided for those with specific health issues. The group offers some laughs as well as the more serious side. If you are considering taking it up do come along and see for yourself.
The benefits cited by members of the group include:
- Greater flexibility and joint mobility, using muscles that have not been used in a while
- Confidence
- More energy
- Sleeping better
- Feeling relaxed & calm
- Breath control
Seen by many as a purely physical discipline, yoga is really about the whole person and not just a practice for the mat - but for living your life. A regular practice of postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama)and meditation leads to alterations in the physical body which has an impact on the mind. Stilling our chattering minds and learning to relax is so important in this world of multi-tasking and numerous distractions.
Yoga can be enjoyed by anyone and our group included complete beginners as well as those with experience. It is wonderful to see participants develop their practice during the course of the year, extending their range of movement, improving their posture and overall confidence.
