We aim to learn the dances that we are likely to find at a ceilidh, at the same time enjoying a bit of exercise and having fun. To maintain interest, we sometimes try simple Scottish country dances which provide an extra challenge. We enjoy this especially when the tricky dance is eventually concluded successfully!
The sessions are organised around dances meant to get people dancing with different partners. These dances include circle dances and a variety of round the room dances with a few done in sets of four, five or six couples to add variety. The aim of the sessions is for members to have fun, not to worry about getting the dances absolutely correct. All can be walked instead of danced which makes ceilidh dancing suitable for everyone. It is an enjoyable way to get some body and mind exercise. New dances are gradually incorporated to maintain interest.
Comfortable footwear and suitable clothing along with something to drink is all you need to give it a go. We are always happy to see new members, so come along and join in the fun!
