Climbing and Scrambling
Coordinator: Nigel Riley
Friday mornings at Ambleside or Kendal Climbing Wall and in summer on occasional Thursdays with the High Fells Walking Group.
Unlike in our youth when there were no climbing walls, we enjoy meeting most Friday mornings at either Ambleside or Kendal Climbing Wall. In summer when the weather is fine, we enjoy scrambles and climbs on the crags, or take part in scrambles arranged to coincide with some High Fells Walking Group walks on Thursdays.
Individuals are responsible for the safety of themselves and each other in the same way as the British Mountaineering Council participation statement indicates:
"The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement".
Anyone new to climbing should sign up for tuition by instructors at the climbing wall before taking part.
We keep in touch via email and if you would like to join us contact Nigel.
Climbing Walls reopened after the lockdown with extra precautions: separate zones achieve distancing; sanitizer is for use between routes and masks are worn on entry & while belaying. Occasional, warm, dry weather has tempted us out onto the crags. Currently, we are still climbing each week at the Ambleside wall.
