Cycling - The Recycled Cyclist

The Recycled Cyclists Group was established in November 2014 and currently has 28 members.

Our cycle rides are generally between 25 and 50 miles in length and are planned so that we are mainly on single track roads or cycle paths. We cover a wide geographical area stretching from Bridlington in the north to Barton in the south and from Snaith in the west to Hornsea in the east – and everywhere in between !! We take in all the natural beauty of the Wolds and East Riding together with many of its well known places of interest - Burton Constable Hall, Burton Agnes Hall, Humber Bridge, Sledmere House.

Weekly rides are arranged via our WhatsApp group – which then enables us to be flexible regarding any drastic changes in the weather. We also like to include special occasion rides such as Armistice Day and the Tour de Yorkshire.

Whilst on our rides we like to support local businesses by stopping off for lunch, which can include all manner of delicacies such as sausage/bacon butties; quiche salad; chocolate cake; scones; sausage rolls; and/or ice-cream (obligatory when we go to Mr Moos!!)

As you would expect, we have a wide mix of people and personalities who all share an enthusiastic outlook on life. The mental and physical benefits of cycling are well documented but there are some less obvious ones which our members have enjoyed over the years.

For some, recovery from their own, or distraction from their partner’s serious illness, has been an unforeseen bonus. This has not only helped them to cope with the stresses of life but has helped them discover new interests. Members have ended up joining other u3a groups such as dancing, singing and history.

If this sounds like the sort of people you would like to meet why don’t you come along and give us a try. It costs nothing (apart from a little effort) and you will enjoy it - we promise !!
