Literature

The aim of the Literature Group is to cover both established classics and newly published works which include fiction, biography, drama and poetry. We all decide on a theme and take it in turns to choose a book and lead the discussions.

An example of some of the topics we have discussed in past sessions include the following subjects:

  • French Literature,
  • Satire and Humour,
  • Children in Literature,
  • African Literature,
  • The Jewish Collection,
  • Contemporary Literature.

We also have some sessions when members are invited to select any book of their choice.

Our current theme is THEATRE and we have already discussed
White Cargo, by Felicity Kendal
Beside myself an actor’s life, by Antony Sher,
Morality Play, by Barry Unsworth,

We will continue with our THEATRE theme on the following dates:

  • September 2022 This much is true, by Miriam Margoyles
  • October 2022    Wise Children, by Angela Carter
  • November 2022 An actor and his time, by John Gielgud
  • December 2022 John Thaw: the biography, by Stafford Hildred
  • January 2023    Mrs Jordan’s profession, by Claire Tomalin
  • February 2023 The Exonerated, by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen

We are often able to obtain our books from the Public Library, and most of us who have access to the internet find that we can not only buy books cheaply on line but can look up information on our chosen book author. Books can often be purchased fairly cheaply to be read on Kindle.

Our meetings take place in Ealing W5 in the home of one of our group.

We have lively and informative discussions.

Our group at present is complete with 10 members, but we would welcome putting on our waiting list any new members who are interested in joining our group.

For further information on the activities please contact Mary Hagger by email through the blue bird, above right.

Convenor: Mary Hagger.
