Science
You must be a Member of Ealing u3a to take part in an Interest Group
CURRENT GROUP STATUS
The group has started to meet in person at a venue in the Ealing Broadway area though there may still be occasion when a meeting will take place on zoom. Meetings take place from 3pm normally on the last Friday of each month though this may occasionally be adjusted, eg March 2024 when the last Friday is the bank holiday Good Friday and so we will meet on the fourth Friday.
All U3A members are welcome to join the meeting. To contact the convener, see the details at the foot of this page.
====================================
The group operates by means of exposition, discussion and joint enquiry. Recent topics have included:
- Dark Matter
- Climate Change (workshop organised by University of West London)
- Cosmic Dust
- Ethics of AI (which gave rise to a second discussion on whether or not consciousness / intelligence can arise from manmade objects of sufficient complexity)
- Science in London
- Science in Books
- Science in News
Members are encouraged to contribute to the discussion and also to contribute their own presentations, whether small (a piece of science news) or large (a 40min presentation on a particular topic).
Everyone with an interest in science or technology is welcome. You don't have to a be scientist to join the group, just have a curiosity about the world around us. There is room for a few more members.
