Ealing

Film

You must be a Member of Ealing u3a to take part in an Interest Group

CURRENT GROUP STATUS
The Film group has now split into 2 streams

  • the Film Discussion group who hold face-to-face meetings to talk about films we've seen in the last month. The size of this group is limited as we meet at George & Tim's house in Hanwell on the third Friday each month starting at 10.30am. Currently this group is full.
  • the second group is for Film Viewing only and is for people who are mainly interested in going to see films at the cinema, with other interested people. Usually, after these viewings there is a get-together in the cinema bar/cafe afterwards for people to give their initial thoughts on the film. There is no limit to the number of people who can be part of this group (other than the size of the cinemas).

Any planned film group outings are advertised on the Ealing u3a website, see 'Dates for your Diary' below, and members of either group can attend. There is also a WhatsApp group so that people can let others know if they are planning to go to see a film - the planned outings are advertised here as well.

At the Film Discussion group meetings each participant can talk about any films they have been to see either at the cinema or at home, ideally a maximum of 5 films each. Members may also want to mention any TV highlights they think may be of interest to other group members.

The aim of the groups is to enjoy cinema-going and to discuss the films we have seen and increase our knowledge of film in general. We view and discuss films showing at cinemas/arts centres in the local area and also discuss/recommend films that members have seen on TV, DVD or streaming services.

We now have quite a few relatively local cinema's where the majority of our group members go to see films. The most recent one to open is the PICTUREHOUSE EALING, an 8-screen cinema which is part of the new Filmworks development on the site of the old Ealing Cinema on the Uxbridge Road. Other cinemas in our area are EALING PROJECT, a 3-screen cinema in the basement of the Ealing Shopping Centre in central Ealing, ACT ONE, a 2-screen cinema in the old Library building in Acton, and RIVERSIDE STUDIOS, a 2-screen cinema next to Hammersmith Bridge in Hammersmith; clicking on the highlighted links will take you to the 'What's On' pages for these cinemas. There is also an ODEON LUXE cinema in Park Royal (near to Hanger Lane tube station) and two VUE cinemas in Shepherd's Bush.
Unfortunately, the other local cinema in our area, WATERMANS in Brentford, closes soon but is due to reopen on a new site in the area in 2025.

If you are interested in joining either of these groups, please contact Phil Broomsgrove, details below.
