London Region of U3As - Summer Walks and Visits Programme 2024
The London Region Events Team are delighted to announce the launch of bookings for the Summer Walks and Visits Programme 2024. Between 21st May and 23rd July, we are offering an exciting programme of 31 walks and visits to museums/galleries around central London.
There will be a choice of guided walks in areas such as Westminster, South Kensington, Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia, Camden, Regents Park and The City. In addition, there will be guided tours at visitor attractions such as the National Portrait Gallery, British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery and talks at the Natural History Museum.
The online Programme includes information about each event, plus a direct link to the relevant online Booking Form.
Each event, which is for u3a members only, is priced at just £10 per person (no refunds).
Maximum capacity is 20 participants per guided walk, and 15 participants for each guided visit.
Based on previous experience we expect tickets to sell quickly. Online booking is highly recommended to avoid delay and disappointment in booking confirmation.

| Mon Apr 22nd | Walking Group 2 | The Walking Group 2 Last Monday's walk was postponed for a week so the next walk will be on Monday. 22nd April. It will be a 4 mile walk starting at Paddington, walking through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, ending in Notting Hill. Meet at Ealing Broadway, platform 4, at 10.00 a.m. for the Elizabeth line to Paddington. To join this walk, contact Maureen Spriggs by email using the bluebird icon in the Walking Group 2 page. |

THEATRE OUTING - QUESTORS STUDIODate: 5th May 2024 The Slaves of Solitude by Simon Roberts, Adapted from the novel by Patrick Hamilton. WWII black comedy by the author of Gas Light Heard of ‘gaslighting’? Know where it comes from? It’s from Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 play, Gas Light, later adapted for two films (one British, one US), hugely successful in both countries. His popular novels (e.g. Hangover Square, Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, The Gorse Trilogy) include The Slaves of Solitude. Simon Roberts (leading Questors actor and director and passionate Hamilton enthusiast) has now adapted the novel for the stage - and this will be the World Première. (Questors audiences may remember Simon’s striking production of Rope in 2014. Hitchcock directed the film.) In 1943 an ill-assorted group of lodgers in a boarding house a few miles outside London are eking out a wartime existence in safety (they hope) from the trauma of the Blitz. The are joined unexpectedly by two wayward and pleasure-seeking GIs and an attractive German-born lady, who divides opinion. At the centre of the plot is Miss Enid Roach, approaching middle-age and rootless. Hamilton cleverly links the vastness of devastating world events with the pared-back lives of the residents thrown against their will into a different form of strife. You’d expect some darkness from the author of Gas Light – but this is a black comedy weaved around a group of random strangers forced into proximity in the middle of the black-out. COFFEE MORNINGS for u3a MEMBERSOur Coffee Mornings for May are on Thursday 16th at 5 venues in Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell and Northfields/South Ealing - venue details below.
This is an opportunity to meet other Ealing U3A members for a coffee/tea/cake and a chat - there's no agenda for these sessions. At each venue there should be a Committee member and/or some experienced members who should be able to answer any questions you may have about our u3a. Note that you need to purchase your own tea, coffee, biscuits, etc at each venue. |

COACH OUTING TO WINCHESTERThe Excursions Group is organising a coach trip to Winchester on Thursday 16th May. This excursion is only available to Ealing U3A members. The cost is £20 per person. We are meeting at Haven Green at 09.45 am for a prompt 10.00 am departure. (Timing is subject to change). Plenty to visit such as the Cathedral, Winchester College, Peninsula Barracks and the resting place of Jane Austen at Winchester Cathedral. Explore at your own pace with a self-guided tour and download the app at VISITWINCHESTER.co.uk. I will be arranging a Group ticket for the Cathedral at a cost of £10.00 per person (maximum 10 persons). Ordinary admittance is at £12.50, an Annual Pass for persons over 66 years young is at £10.00. Kindly indicate if you would like to be included in a Group Ticket. If you wish to purchase an Annual Pass this can be purchased online or at the Cathedral. The basic tour of the cathedral is around an hour long. Travel arrangements will be through Golden Tours. Once I have reached the required quota for the trip you will be advised as to payment details. Please do not offer to pay before this time. Applications close by Thursday 2nd May.
