WINE APPRECIATION - 2
WINE APPRECIATION Group 2 Shepperton Riverside, 2pm-4pm every second Wednesday of the month or as agreed.
Expand your knowledge and enjoyment of wine through and discussing wines from different countries, regions and from different grape varieties.
We have been continuing to enjoy our wines and expand our knowledge. Following a last minute cancellation of our March session we started to run meetings using Zoom. Our first was a ‘Rosé wines’ session when we each bought a bottle of Rosé and discussed our purchases. The second concentrated on a particular grape variety - Malbec for which one of our members who had visited Argentina delivered an excellent presentation. Another group member, Susan Dev, chaired a pre-lock down meeting on the subject of the Primitivo grape variety. She had visited Puglia in Italy, the home of Primitivo (which I haven’t) and gave us really interesting information about this grape variety. It is great that members become so engaged. The last two meetings have been held outdoors at my home with anti-bac spraying of all tables and chairs and rain shielding social distancing. We have decided to concentrate on different grape varieties as we can each buy bottle, drink some and bring the rest along so that we can pour from our own bottles. August was
Sangiovese, the Chianti grape and next month we have voted for ‘Spain other than Rioja’. I send notes out about the subject of the meeting beforehand and we all contribute purchase suggestions.
