Italian for Holidays
This group has now been meeting for over four years and has just completed the BBC ‘Talk’ Books 1-2, with accompanying CDs. The topics, vocabulary and grammar in this course have provided a useful basis for our fortnightly sessions. We have just started another BBC course, Italianissimo with CD's and TV programs off You tube.
Plenty of other resources are used/dipped into, in order to extend and reinforce our language skills e.g. videos, cue sheets, flashcards, opera (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Il Postino Pat etc. Some group members use the Duolingo App for practice at home, regularly listen to the CDs, watch ‘Montalbano’ on a regular basis, peruse ‘501 Italian Verbs’ and/or visit la bell’Italia on holiday.
As is the case with many other U3A groups, owing to a variety of commitments (we are a fairly sociable lot), it is rare for all eight members to be present at each session, so there is inevitably a need to revise and recap vocabulary that has been missed or previously learnt and then forgotten (not getting any younger….).
Our approach is generally light hearted. We have an annual outing to a local Italian restaurant and
our afternoon sessions frequently end with a glass of Prosecco and tasty nibbles.
Ciao!
