Wed Apr 3rd No meeting this month

There will be no fixed meeting of the group in April. Should the weather get warmer we may organise a photoshoot—suggestions welcome. If anyone wants source material for help with their photography then they can e-mail a request to me at any time. Same with enquiries about using the Affinity Photo program: johncartmell@me.com. I would aim to get back to you within 24 hours and can arrange an online connection if that’s best.

Those of you using Affinity editing software may be interested in the take over of the software by Canva. They promise no change in the way Affinity can be purchased but to speed up delivery of new features and supply the software free to education. You may wish to look to see what Canva does and how this might help users. Let me know if you want a meeting specifically to discuss Affinity matters of any kind.
Computer Help Desk
Tue Apr 2nd 2.00pm at The Bridge Community Church Hall, Headless Cross.

The Computer User group support a help desk at the monthly u3a Open Meetings where anyone can ask for help with a specific computer problem you have, or ask for help to understand how to use your computer. Bring a screen copy of any error messages (and, if possible, your computer) to help get us started with a solution for you. See also the Computer User interest group that meets on Wednesday 10th April at 10am. Whatever the focus subject we can often deal with general computer questions at the end of that meeting.
Computer Users Group
Wed Apr 10th 10.00am online via Webex.

Dealing with Passwords
Following on from last month’s spring cleaning we look at how to organise your files to avoid duplications and help you find the right file quickly. This will include ideas for naming your files. There should also be time for last minute ad hoc questions.
The focus for May will be on mail programs and using e-mail.

Contacting Cousins
Once you have identified a cousin using DNA matches or via traditional genealogy research, what’s the best way of contacting them to get an answer and encourage research sharing? Between us we should have plenty of success stories—and failures to discuss.

If you have done no family history before this is an excellent way to get started. Just log on to the meeting on Wednesday and see what it’s all about. Next month will be about organising your research folders.

Wed Apr 3rd U3A Walk Number 365 3 April 2024

Alcester and Oversley Wood

Leader: Murray Taylor
Approximately 5.2 miles

The walk begins at 10:00 from Bull’s Head yard car park in Alcester, B49 5BX, adjacent to the Waitrose car park. The route goes through Alcester and into Oversley Wood and back round to Alcester. It is reasonably good underfoot, mainly on roads, paths and tracks. No styles but an incline up to the wood. Elevenses and lunch are optional.

I have provisionally booked for 16 people at 12:45 at the Turk’s Head in Alcester, and I suggest that even if we are rained off, that we still meet for lunch. You can see the menu at theturkshead.net

Any queries, contact Murray Taylor on 07990 531553
