Family History
Welcome to the Family History page
Our Group was formed to help members search for their ancestors. Meetings take place on the 2nd Thursday in the month between September and May. We meet at the home of one of our members.
Our members are at all different stages in their search for ancestors, ranging from complete beginners to those who are seeking to write up their research for posterity. We find that we all learn a great deal from listening to the experiences of other members, exchanging useful web sites and newspaper articles.
Sometimes we visit records offices, both locally and in London and, occasionally, we arrange a talk on a topic of interest.
As research is done mainly by computer these days, it is a big advantage to be computer literate. However, if you don't own a computer, all is not lost because computer time is available in the local libraries, at the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford, and also at many venues in London.
We have links with the central U3A family history coordinator, who keeps us up to date with all matters of interest in the subject and advises us on matters which crop up from time to time.
If you are interested in joining us and would like more information please enquire via the Groups coordinator button on the Contact page and someone will contact you soon.
