The sun is shining. The birds are singing. You reach the top of the hill, and your effort is rewarded. A view opens out over the valley of the Tove. Ahead of you lies a downhill ride into the valley, and the secluded beauty of Preston Deanery. Just one moment in the life of a member of the Northampton u3a cycle group.
Started in Autumn 2014, the group has ten members at present, a number which has remained fairly constant over time. Some are original members, others are more recent, but new members are always welcome.
Rides are on most weekly on Thursday mornings at 10.30am, subject to weather conditions. They vary in length from 12-13 miles to 20-25 miles, and often include a refreshment stop at a welcoming café. We are a very sociable group of people, and members often organise additional informal rides on other days. We ride at a gentle pace, and some of us use e-bikes for the hills.
We make good use of the Northampton cycle network, including the 18 mile Norbital route around the town’s periphery, as well as country roads and lanes. Rides have varying starting points, and some are accessed by car. Cars have been essential to access the cycle routes around Rutland Water and Milton Keynes. There are so many lovely villages in our vicinity.
Whether you have cycled all your life but now need a slower, easier pace, or have taken it up as a new hobby, our friendly group might be just the thing you need.
Please contact the leader by phone or using the email link on the right if you are interested.
