This group started up in 2014. Archaeology is a huge subject and so far we have, amongst other things, looked into the lives of the antiquarians who were the forerunners of modern archaeologists, considered some archaeological techniques and enjoyed presentations on some interesting sites, both in Britain and abroad. We had a fascinating tour around the site of the Piddington Roman villa and its museum. We have looked at the Bronze Age and had a trip to Flag Fen near Peterborough, and we visited the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge last year to see the exhibition “ Islanders: the making of the Mediterranean” (and have a very pleasant lunch out!) We are presently looking at Pompeii and Herculaneum.
We also look at current archaeological news.
We are a learning group and the idea is that members research topics and give short talks or longer presentations to the others.
We have some vacancies so if you are interested please contact Stella Watts by phone or email using the link on the right.
We would love to hear from you.
