Shakespeare for Pleasure
Leader: Nigel Warbis Tel: 07943 810965
The ‘Shakespeare for Pleasure’ group has members who joined as complete beginners, often having hated Shakespeare at school, as well as those who already had experience of many of the plays when joining the group. Whatever your previous experience you will be guaranteed a warm welcome and soon grow in confidence. All you need is an interest in finding out more about Shakespeare. Please note: no member is ever expected to read aloud, or answer questions, unless they wish to do so, so set aside those bad memories of school.
In March 2024 we will be continuing our study of 'King Lear', a play considered by many to be Shakespeare's greatest tragedy. Activities will include watching and discussing the BBC television production from 1982, starring Michael Hordern as Lear, and comparing it with scenes from a slightly later production with Sir Laurence Olivier starring in the title role. We will continue studying the play and exploring its relevance to the 21st century until June. After a break in July the group will begin studying ‘Measure for Measure’
The group meets at 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the 2nd Monday of each month at the leader's home.
Although currently full there is, at present, nobody on the waiting list to join.
