Social History one
Leader John Robinson
Having studied numerous social issues affected by British History and looked in detail at the lives and work of many influential people, from 1750 - 1939. The group decided that we would look more closely at manufacturing, post Industrial Revolution 1750-1900 approximately. This was possibly inspired by factory chimneys rearing up during the Olympic opening ceremony. Each group member has chosen to study a different industry to research and will present their findings to the group at one of our monthly meetings. Subjects chosen include: textiles, railways, ship-building, pottery, bicycles, sewing machines, photography and agricultural machines - industries that have revolutionised the lives of ordinary people in Britain.
