Covid restrictions are effectively at an end, although we remain cautious. Some of our activities remain "on ice", and some will continue online, while others are resuming as normally as possible.

WHAT IS U3A?
Learning for fun for the (partially) retired!

U3A is short for “University of the Third Age”, and all U3A groups are affiliated members of the Third Age Trust (a registered charity), which was established in 1982. The title ′University′ refers to its original meaning: 'a collection of like minded people committed to learning for its own sake'. There are no examinations or entry qualifications needed, and none are awarded!

Each U3A group has its own constitution, and runs its affairs in line with local members' wishes and by their voluntary efforts. Its main purpose is to encourage lifelong learning for those who are no longer in full-time employment. Courses/interest groups can be intellectually stimulating, physically beneficial and/or just good fun. Basically we’re a club for ‘Recreation, Education and Companionship’ for Third Agers: Learn, Laugh and Live!

Aberystwyth U3A was established in 2006, is a member of the mid-Wales U3A network, and currently has about 70 members.

WHO CAN JOIN?

There’s no age limit for membership of Aberystwyth U3A, but our activities are aimed at mature people not in full-time employment, who wish to share in educational, recreational and/or creative activities and companionship.

The rewards are in learning, participation and social interaction. Members are encouraged to participate as learners or teachers/leaders. Each member receives a full programme of our monthly meetings/events. A periodic bulletin will list interest groups, times, dates, venues. Leaders will be contactable via e-mail, or any of the committee.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The annual subscription (due on 1st January) is currently £15.00. Annual membership includes the magazine "U3A Third Age Matters", five issues per year.
It will be posted free to your home, one copy per household, unless you specify that you do not want to receive it. New members can join at any time of the year – you don’t have to wait until January!

Anyone is welcome to attend a "taster" of our monthly meetings, for up to two visits (for which there's a small charge of £2.00 per visit), after which we hope they’ll join us at the annual membership rate. (For new members joining between September and December, there’s a reduced rate subscription).

Click here for a downloadable Membership application.

Sorry but it’s not possible to join an interest group separately from Aberystwyth U3A as a whole – you must have paid your annual subscription first!

WHERE DO WE MEET..?

Our main meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 2.30pm, at the Ceredigion Museum, Terrace Road, Aberystwyth. The meetings are held upstairs but there is a lift from the Tourist Information area at street level.

We usually have guest speakers, who cover a wide variety of subjects. Click on the Events button above for our current programme’s details.

Refreshments are available at the excellent museum cafe.

WHERE DO COURSES/GROUPS TAKE PLACE?

The interest groups meet at various venues, at other members’ homes, or online. Interest Groups are self-funding and some members may need to pay a small additional fee to cover their individual group’s own expenses, materials and trips.

We hope you’ll considering joining us and participating.
